Ron Dennis reckons F1 will hold
night races in the not-too-distant future, as he feels they can
be made safe.
There's been a lot of talk of late
about Formula One finally stepping into the night racing market,
with Australia and Singapore being touted as the two most likely
venues.
However, already some have raised
concerns about the safety of both the drivers and the
spectators, especially in a situation where the power fails.
Dennis, though, believes a safe
environment for the races can be achieved.
"We are absolutely in favour,
provided the races are safe, and I think they can be," the
McLaren team boss told Autosprint magazine.
"If we must have a late night to
race somewhere, we'll do it.
"The only problem is: what happens
if there is a power outage?
"You could object that a system
with emergency generators could be efficiently set up. But it's
a rather costly matter.
"I've thought about it and I
concluded that if there was a mobile, specifically-designed
system, with its cost to be shared among the various circuits,
then it could be taken from one place to another, avoiding the
ugly sight of a useless lighting structure."
