Malaysia Has To Be Fully Prepared For Night
F1 Racing, Says Mokhzani

KUALA LUMPUR. Malaysia has to be
fully prepared before it can organise night Formula One (F1)
racing, said Sepang International Circuit Sdn Bhd (SIC) Datuk
Mokhzani Tun Mahathir.
"At the moment we are still studying the matter. We have to look
at various aspects like the lighting that is suitable for the
circuit.
"Safety is paramount in F1 racing, more so night racing," he
told Bernama when contacted here today.
He said night racing could only be implemented once the SIC
obtained the green light from Federation Internationale de
l'Automobile (FIA), the world body governing F1 racing.
F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone had asked Malaysia to be ready to
organise night F1 racing apart from upgrading facilities at the
circuit.
In May, Ecclestone announced that Singapore had been chosen as a
new venue for F1 racing and that the city-state had the approval
from FIA to hold the race at night.
On the issue of skimpily clad female promoters at motor races in
the country, which was brought up by two government backbenchers
at today's Dewan Rakat sitting, Mokhzani declined to comment on
it.
"We have been organising promotions and the race here for seven
years now. I do not want to comment on this," he said. |
